For Immediate Release:

MENMicro and ACT/Technico Become Technology Partners

Dallas, TX and Ivyland, PA, Jan. 15, 2001 – ACT/Technico announced that it has selected MEN Micro, Inc. as a technology partner. ACT/Technico has plans to use MEN single board computers (SBCs) and input-output (I/O) modules in its embedded and real-time integration projects. ACT/Technico specializes in bus-based industrial and ruggedized applications using VMEbus,CompactPCI bus and PC bus products.

  "
There is a lot of synergy between our two companies," said Ken Grob, vice president of ACT/Technico.  "We have used MEN technology in the past, most notably M-Modules for modular I/O. As we looked at the rest of MEN's product lines, we saw that their 3U CompactPCI SBCs offer us the capability to provide some very unique solutions to the marketplace.  In addition, the industrially hardened nature of many of MEN's computer boards as well as its PC-MIP I/O modules complemented some of the extreme environments where we were already working. MEN's 3U and 6U CompactPCI and Motorola PowerPC SBCs will be particularly helpful in the telecommunications arena".

ACT/Technico has designed and integrated system solutions for a wide variety of organizations including NASA, AT&T, General Electric, Raytheon and Oracle. Typical projects use some combination of custom designed and commercially available hardware, as well as real-time software from Wind River and LynuxWorks. ACT/Technico plans to use MEN's products in many different types of systems, including industrial real-time process control, telecommunications and communication applications, ruggedized military systems, and others.

"Because many of our SBCs and modular I/O cards have already been qualified for temperature, shock and vibration extremes in harsh conditions, ACT/Technico will be able to reduce the technology risk of its projects by eliminating much of the qualification process", said Ernest Godsey, president of MEN Micro.  "And our approach to modular I/O with PC-MIP and M-Module mezzanine cards is a natural fit for a company like ACT/Technico. The flexibility of our mezzanine card approach assures that ACT/Technico will have the I/O cards it needs for the diverse range of systems it develops".

* Note to editors: PC-MIP is a new, PCI-based mezzanine standard developed jointly by MEN Mikro Elektronik and SBS Modular I/O with support from Motorola Computer Group and Schroff.  PC-MIP combines the best of three worlds: First, the concept of an industrial front connection from M-Modules; second, the flexible small form factor of Industry Packs; and third, the electrical specification of the PCI bus. The PC-MIP specification is administered by the VMEbus Industry Trade Association (VITA) Standards Organization (VSO) and is currently in the last stage of ANSI standardization. PC-MIP modules and a range of intelligent or passive carrier boards are already available from a number of companies in Europe and the USA.
