Ivyland, PA, January 2005- ACT/Technico,
a leading supplier of integrated real-time and embedded systems built with VMEbus, CompactPCI, and other open architecture platforms, announces it's new RAIDStor Development Kit (RDK). It serves as an established baseline to help users realize the full potential of RAIDStor and its leading edge storage management capabilities. The RAIDStor is a 6U single slot embedded Network Attached Storage Module for PICMG 2.16 or VITA 31.1 compatible systems.
The system represents the smallest RAID footprint in the embedded industry with automatic and transparent duplication of data across network attached storage blades. The system is managed as an appliance via
a Web browser interface or via SNMP interface.
RAIDStor is targeted to serve as a building block for highly available (HA) systems and is intended to eliminate difficult file management coherence and
synchronization issues required when implementing HA systems.
The RAIDStor Development Kit is fully integrated and tested prior to shipment to ensure smooth deployment. The kit contains everything needed to
establish a complete Embedded Network Attached RAID solution with dual star topology in a PICMG 2.16 or VITA 31.1 enclosure:
- 19" rackmount chassis or tower with either PICMG 2.16 or VITA 31.1 backplane
- Two RAIDStor 6200 storage blades, with up to 120 GB per blade
- Two 10/100 or Gigabit Ethernet fabric switches
- PICMG 2.16 or VITA 31.1 System/Node slot Pentium or PowerPC M single board computer
- Any required rear transition modules (RTMs).
The kit includes a remote support package allowing users to leverage ACT/Technico's systems
solutions experience and know how in the embedded computing industry.
The RAIDStor
provides the user with a board level Network Attached (NAS) RAID solution. It is hot swappable, and designed to implement highly available solutions. The RAIDStor provides two Packet Switched Backplane (PSB) compatible Ethernet connections to implement connections to two different networks. When used in a PSB compatible backplane, an Ethernet connection is made to two fabric switches, allowing redundant connections to be made to other node boards within the chassis.
The RAIDStor is designed to use a multi-tasking kernel providing network services via TCP/IP.
Depending on the network OS, the blades are supported through either SMB or NFS. Logical drives are available to clients via NFS export.
Internally, data are protected via onboard mirroring services performed by embedded firmware. The
mirroring is transparent to the user. The RAID Blade also supports automatic rebuild of corrupt or replaced drives.
REDUNDANT NAS ARCHITECTURE Other advanced features of the RAIDStor include automatic
network synchronization of data written to an active RAIDStor operating in a mirrored NAS configuration. Supporting redundant NAS controllers, data can be mirrored between RAIDStors over the network. Automatic
failover between RAIDStors is possible, providing a highly available storage solution, achieved by implementing an active/active architecture across the network.
The NAS architecture supports failover and
recovery of an individual drive, a NAS controller, a fabric switch, or an Ethernet port on the client requesting a transaction.
APPLICATIONS: Applications for this system include: Embedded file server, Active/Active
NAS solution, Boot server, Voice over IP, NAS embedded storage using NFS, or any other application requiring highly available and redundant blade level storage.
