Beginning July 1, 2006, EU Directive 2002/95/EC restricted the use of certain substances used in electronic components and asemblies. The directive specifically cites lead, mercury, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyls, hexavalent chromium and polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
Several market segments are exempt from the directive and its regulations including many served by ACT/Technico. They include the military, aerospace, automotive and various server markets.
For end users transitioning from legacy non-compliant products to RoHS compliant products:
ACT/Technico will identify RoHS compliant alternative solutions where available and will work with our customers to provide a seamless upgrade path to ensure a smooth transition to form, fit and function replacement products.
For end users requiring RoHS compliant products:
ACT/Technico will supply products where available which are in accordance with the directives.
For end users in markets which are exempt from the RoHS directives:
ACT/Technico will continue to supply non-compliant products where available for those customers who are exempt from the RoHS Directives.
RoHS affects primarily commercial off the shelf (COTS) products which results in the EOL of many non-compliant products with or without the introduction of compliant replacements. As many embedded applications use COTS products, our industry will inevitably be effected.
As value-added integrators and designers of our own line of storage products, ACT/Technico will endeavor to ease RoHS issues by:
ACT/Technico and our partner suppliers support the global goal of reducing the affects of hazardous materials in the environment. We recognize the need to evaluate the effect of RoHS compliant processes in providing reliable electronic assemblies. Therefore it is our intent to provide infrastructure and support to our customers as the RoHS compliant transition takes place.
